~Intercessory Prayer~

Intercessory prayer...just WHAT is an intercessor? It is one who "stands in the gap" for another praying for that person.

Here are some scenarios that can occur where someone would have to step into the gap to pray for another person:

  • Praying for someone who is not saved
  • Praying for someone who is too sick or too incapacitated to pray for himself anyore
  • Praying for someone whose faith levels are too low with the Lord
  • Praying for someone who is too weak in the Word
  • Praying for someone who has very little, if any, personal relationship established with the Lord
  • Praying for someone who has a sudden emergency getting ready to attack them
  • Praying in agreement with others on an united prayer cause
One who "stands in the gap" for another is an unselfish person in that he/she chooses to take the time to pray for someone other than him or herself. God is calling those who follow Him to intercede for others. I used to think that an intercessory prayer warrior was simply "gifted" that way...that it was one of the spiritual gifts. We, as followers of Christ, are ALL called to intercede.

Some verses found in the Old Testament but relevant today are:
  1. “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.” (Ezekiel 22:30)
  2. “He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor; therefore His own arm brought salvation for him … (Isaiah 59:16)
How sad for God that He could find no one to pray! We need to wake up and realize that selfishness does not become a Christian. We need to realize the POWER of prayer! We need to be so close to Jesus and the Holy Spirit that we "hear" Him whisper to us regarding those in need of someone to step in and pray for them. Be alert to times when someone simply "comes to mind". You may not know just "what" to pray...but PRAY! By ALL means PRAY for that person!

Jesus is calling a few good prayer warriors! Choose to be one in the army against the spiritual warfare all around us!
